Maruti, keen to grow business by sea, ties up with country's first private major port

Although it was born in Japan, Suzuki has been doing business in this country for decades in association with Maruti. In that view, India can be called their second home. They have always been out of touch with other companies in terms of car sales. Apart from India, many of their vehicles are crossing to different countries of the world. To speed it up, Maruti Suzuki has tied up with Kamarajar Port Limited, the country's first private major port company located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Maruti took this decision to increase the sales of popular models made in the country in the international market. From Kamaraja shipping port, their vehicles will be exported mainly to Africa, Latin America, Middle East countries, Asia, Oceania, and SAARC countries.

A five-year agreement has been signed between Maruti Suzuki and this port company in Tamil Nadu since this December. To move all the cars by sea, Kamaraja Port Limited has decided to build a special type of cargo ship, which can carry four-wheelers as well as other goods. Complete work will be completed during wartime operations.

Maruti Suzuki has signed an agreement with Toyota Motors Corporation several years ago. According to this agreement, the recently launched SUV Grand Vitara is being manufactured at Toyota Kirloskar Motor's plant in Vidadi, Karnataka.

The vehicle will be sent to the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) center at Kamaraja port in the first phase before it is shipped overseas. Later, the work of shipping abroad will be completed from there. Incidentally, as the twelfth largest port in India, Kamaraja port has parking facilities for 14,000 cars. Each vehicle is thoroughly cleaned and inspected here before being loaded onto the ship for shipping.

Maruti Suzuki has started exporting cars from our country to the international market since 1986. They were the largest export in the financial year 2021-22. During this time, more than 2.38 lakh cars have been exported to more than 100 countries of the world through their hands. In addition to this, they have continued the export work from Mumbai port, Mundra port, and Pipavav port.
